Different types and styles of windows and doors will influence your home’s appearance both from the outside and the inside. But, once your windows have been installed, there isn’t much you can do to change the look, outside of perhaps painting the frame. You can however express your style with different types of window treatments. Material, colour, style, functionality, light transparency, and coverage can change from one treatment to another and your window treatments can be changed as often as you like. Allowing you to change the look and feel of any room in your home.

Roman Shades

These shades are made out of fabric and hang flat to cover your window, the fabric folds horizontally when raised creating an accordion effect. Roman shades are popular because they offer great privacy and you can easily control the amount of light allowed in by raising the shades to certain levels. They also offer great privacy and can provide additional insulation depending on the thickness of the fabric. You can get these shades made with any pattern you could imagine, as any fabric can be used to create these style shades.

Curtains/Drapery

Drapery usually hands along a rod, which itself can be considered a piece of art. By sliding your drapes across the rod, you are able to cover or expose as much of your window as you see fit. Curtains are made from a long piece of fabric that extends from the top of your window to the floor. There are so many different drapery options, that there are stores that are dedicated to just selling curtains. There are curtains that let in a lot of light, and others that block all light, there are noise, water, and fire-resistant drapes, as well as elegant, casual, and super posh versions. Some versions are open and close by pulling them, using a cord, or even mechanical devices operated by a switch or remote.

Venetian Blinds

These blinds are assembled using slats made from either wood, plastic, or metal. These are then connected by thin rope or cloth in a manner that allows each slat to rotate simultaneously 180 degrees. As they rotate the space between them opens and closes, allowing you to control the amount of light and privacy you have at any given time. By pulling on a cord, you are able to compress the blinds completely to the top frame, exposing the window completely for maximum light and air transfer.

Shutters

Stationary shutters are often used as an exterior window accessory for aesthetic purposes, however, shutters are a popular interior window covering option. They are usually made out of wood or plastic, they can have fixed or adjustable slates attached to a hard frame. They are attached to your window frame or wall by hinges, allowing them to be pulled to the side of your window or to fully cover your window depending on your privacy and light needs.
