Knowing the exact time to replace your window is just as important as knowing you should replace your window at all. Faulty windows do more than make your home vulnerable. The longer you hold on to those faulty windows, the more you put your furniture at risk of serious damage and you get to pay more on energy bills.

Knowing when exactly to replace your windows will save you a great deal of money, peace of mind, and comfort. Without having to guess, certain tell-tale signs will clearly indicate the condition of your window and whether it can be repaired or completely replaced:

COMMON SIGNS YOUR WINDOW NEEDS REPLACEMENT

One of the best ways to determine when to have your windows replaced or not is by examining them. When you do this, you should look out for various since that tell whether they’re in good working condition or not:

Listed below are few signs that tell whether your window needs replacement or not:

1. DRAFTS

Draft are major signs your windows are bad. Draft occurs when the weather-tight seals in your window is lost or damaged. The seal can easily be replaced if the window frames are still intact (still firm enough to hold weather-tight seals down) and if otherwise, you should look to replace the entire window.

2. FOGGY GLASS

When you start noticing condensation build-up between your double-paned glass, it only means the insulating property of your window has been compromised. That isn’t all. This also means your window is no longer energy efficient which will continually cause a surge in your monthly energy bill. A complete window replacement will suffice to eliminate condensation build-up in your window, improve your comfort, and lower your energy bill.

3. POOR OPERATION

Having difficulties opening and closing windows is definitely the last thing any homeowner wants. Poor window operation can be due to dirt and debris hindering the free movement at the hinges and track. If your window track and hinges are perfectly fine and your windows are still stiff, you should look into having such a window replaced.

4. HIGH ENERGY BILLS

When you start spending a fortune on your energy bill, you know for sure your windows are no longer energy efficient. If your windows have lost their insulating property, it would cost you less to have them completely replaced with energy-efficient ones than paying concurrent high energy bills.

5. BROKEN FRAMES

You don’t need a window expert to tell you to have your windows replaced once they have broken frames. Broken frames are a clear sign your windows are bad and if not quickly replaced will lead to other costly damages.

Even though newly installed windows can last a long number of years, they eventually need to be replaced when they get damaged. Once newly installed, the rule of thumb with windows is that they last between 15 to 20 years before they need to be replaced. So once your windows get to the 15 years mark, you should definitely look into having them replaced once they start showing signs of inefficiency.
